Tweede Jan Steenstraat, De Pijp
Historical bones, modern touches
Size: 72m2
Scope: interior architecture, full renovation services, furniture
Location: De Pijp, Amsterdam
Completion date: March 2023
De Pijp is one of Amsterdam's most characterful and densely lived-in neighbourhoods defined by the late 19th century apartment buildings that line its streets, each one built with the kind of ceiling heights, cornicing, and room proportions that modern construction rarely matches.
Apartments in De Pijp tend to carry layers of previous interventions where each renovation is an opportunity to strip back to the building's original quality and let it speak again.
Studio P3 completed a full interior architecture renovation working with the 1882 building's existing character as the foundation for every design decision.
This project aims to embrace the traditional essence of a historic 1882 De Pijp apartment while introducing fresh, contemporary touches. Wooden floors, a neutral palette, and darker accent materials define and ground key areas, creating a timeless quality that respects the building’s character while bringing it into the present.
